C-Gauge Study

Metrology and mapping of conductors and CGFs at EL-10m level.

The objective of this 2015 survey was to utilise laser metrology to map conductor features and anomalies.  This was done to aid with the installation of protective clamp sleeves between the conductor and CGF that would prevent excessive conductor movement and further damage.

HPR utilised OceanTools C-Gauge laser system mounted onto the front of an Outland 1000 ROV system, to complete this survey.

In order to accommodate effective laser measurements the CaviBlaster cleaning system was used to remove marine growth from the conductor and CGF surface.

When taking laser measurements a stable platform was created using fixed magnets which were fitted on the front of the ROV rig so to maximise the lasers accuracy.

One of the laser metrology tasks was to calculate the gap between the conductor and the CGF in order to calculate the thickness of metal needed for the protective clamp sleeves.
