Texo Group plans to expand Dundee workforce

Dundee-based engineering group Texo will hold a jobs fair today as it seeks to rapidly expand its city workforce.

When Texo Group formed in August last year it outlined its ambition to grow to a £100 million turnover company with a workforce of 1,000 across several UK locations.

The firm, which operates a fabrication facility and a range of engineering services in Dundee, yesterday said it was ahead of schedule with its plans, leading to the need for additional staff.

Texo has 25 full-time workers at the Port of Dundee, which the company hopes to increase to 100 employees by the end of next year.

Managing director Robert Dalziel said: “Our strategy has been to hand-pick the very best people in their respective fields, thereby short-circuiting some of the growing pains that a conventional new company would experience.

“Assembling a team of highly experienced and well-known, professionals gives clients the confidence to commission Texo to manage their critical projects and this has been vindicated through the outstanding success of the team on projects won to date.”

The company has been successful at winning contracts in the UK and overseas and said it had a “very strong” order book.

Texo’s drilling unit won the contract to upgrade the ENSCO 100 jack-up in November, which led to more than 160 staff being hired at the peak of the project in Dundee.

The company directly employs 120 staff and a further 200 contractors across six UK locations.

The business, which is headquartered in Aberdeen, recently opened its new purpose-built engineering and fabrication facility at the Port of Blyth.

Mr Dalziel added: “The future for Texo is exciting on a number of fronts.

“We have surpassed our initial projections massively in our core oil and gas market.

“We are also seeing tremendous opportunities in our other markets including offshore wind.”

The recruitment fair will run at Malmaison in Whitehall Crescent, Dundee, from noon to 8pm today.

Among the trades required are riggers, welders, plumbers, electricians, industrial cleaners, engineers, pipefitters and painters.
