TechnipFMC confirms 50 jobs at risk in Aberdeen

Global energy service giant TechnipFMC said today that 50 jobs were under threat at one of its subsidiaries in Aberdeen.

TechnipFMC said that a final decision on the number of redundancies would be made following a consultation with workers at its FMC Kongsberg business in Altens.

Delphine Nayral, public relations director at TechnipFMC, insisted the move was due to market conditions, and not its recently announced restructuring.

In August, the London, Houston and Paris-headquartered firm unveiled its plans to split into two trading firms.

One would be a technology and service company called RemainCo, and the other an engineering and construction firm, SpinCo.

At the time, union officials raised concerns that workers had been left in the dark over their futures.

Earlier this month, the company said that much of its North Sea business would continue to operate under the TechnipFMC name.

The company employs nearly 1,000 people in Westhill, near Aberdeen.

Ms Nayral said the consultancy process was “completely down to the market” and reflected a “slower than expected recovery” in trading conditions coupled with “pressure on margins.”

She said the consultation would be carried out “in accordance with legal requirements”.

She added TechnipFMC still had a strong presence in Aberdeen and other UK locations and was committed to its operations and playing a part in the UK oil sector.
