Swan Hunter has executed the final work scope of the Norther offshore wind farm export cable storage project at the yard in Vlissingen, the Netherlands.
The last sections of spare array and export cables were transpooled from the Van Oord cable laying vessel Nexus, and the DOC-Swan Hunter 4750Te onshore basket carousel, to long term modular storage baskets.
The completion of this final spooling operation marks the end of a year long contract for Van Oord, which included export cable load-in from HLV Da Ji, interim storage and protection, export cable load-out to CLV Nexus, spare cable transpooling and handling operations, and finally transportation of the loaded baskets to the long term storage site in Belgium.
“The successful completion of this project for Van Oord further exhibits our Storage and Spooling Yard as an attractive and strategic choice for installation contractors in the offshore wind industry. With a busy yard schedule ahead for Q2 2019, the combination of our dedicated cable handling equipment and strategically placed ‘direct to sea’ yard, proves the attraction of our full service solution to the offshore wind industry supply chain,” said Swan Hunter’s director, Gerard Kroese.
Norther is an offshore wind farm under construction in the Belgian North Sea, approximately 23 kilometers from the Belgian port of Ostend.
