Scotoil scolded by HSE for failure to protect staff against radiation

Aberdeen-headquartered firm Scotoil has been served a prohibition notice by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) for failing to restrict exposure to radiation.

HSE said Scotoil had not achieved the restriction of exposure by workers to “ionising radiations”.

Scotoil said it was cooperating with HSE and that no employees were harmed.

The HSE notice was served on August 13 2019 and said the issue related to radiation from engineering controls, warning devices and design and safety features.

Scotoil is an environmental solutions firm mainly serving the North Sea oil and gas industry.

A spokesman for the firm said: “Scotoil Services is working proactively with the HSE to resolve the issue contained in the notice.

“We would like to emphasise that there has been no harm to any employee which is Scotoil Services’ main priority.”

Scotoil was taken over during 2014 by Tradebe, the largest hazardous waste company in the UK.

Scotoil holds multiple authorisations for carrying out work at Clipper Quay in Aberdeen Harbour, Smith Quay in Peterhead and South Quay in Montrose.
