RMT welcomes steps toward union's inclusion in Offshore Contractors Partnership

Offshore worker and seafarers union RMT has said today it “welcomes” steps being made toward its inclusion in the Offshore Contractors Partnership Agreement (OCPA).

The union has written a letter of support to the Offshore Contractors Association concerning the intention to include RMT Union amongst signatory trade unions to the OCPA.

A Statement of Intent was released by the OCA about the future inclusion of the union, alongside current members Unite and GMB.

Petrofac, Aker Solutions, WorleyParsons, Wood, Stork and Sparrows are all members of the OCPA.

RMT claim that as of 2017, around 76% of the 49,000 workers on North Sea oil and gas installations were employed by contractors.  ‎

Mick Cash, RMT general secretary, said: “This is a welcome step in the right direction. RMT have made a significant contribution to the negotiations that led to the current OCPA being agreed.

“The Statement of Intent recognizes this and lights the way to the RMT becoming formally included amongst the OCPA signatory unions, alongside our brothers and sisters in Unite and GMB.

“Trade union coordination at this stage in the life cycle of the North Sea’s oil and gas reserves is essential and we look forward to adding our offshore members’ voices to the development of the OCPA, with RMT an equal partner in those vital negotiations over pay and conditions.”
