Production resumes at Buzzard oil field

Production has been resumed at the largest-producing oil field in the UK following a shut down.

Operator CNOOC announced on October 4 that its Buzzard field had been shut down after a defect was found during an inspection.

The platform, around 60 miles north-east of Aberdeen, has remained in that state while repairs were made to the pipework on the its topsides.

CNOOC said production was safely resumed on Sunday morning after the defect was repaired.

A spokesman said: “The topsides pipework defect has been repaired and production safely restarted at around 11.25am on Sunday 13 October.”

Buzzard is currently the largest producer in the UK according to the Oil and Gas Authority’s website, followed by BP’s Schiehallion field.

Discovered in 2001, it is one of the largest finds in UK waters of the last two decades and started production in 2007.

CNOOC holds a 43% stake in Buzzard.
