Opex Group wins multimillion pound North Sea contract with Cnooc

Aberdeen-headquartered Operational Excellence (Opex) Group has won a multimillion pound contract with Cnooc International on its North Sea assets.

The three-year deal will see Opex roll out predictive analysis technology at the Buzzard, Golden Eagle and Scott platforms.

Opex said its X-pas service will use data science to assess and improve the performance of all oil, gas, water and power systems on the installations.

Chief executive Jamie Bennett said it comes as the industry shows “real commitment” to the use of digital tech to improve operations by reducing maintenance time and identifying threats to production.

He added: “This new contract with CNOOC Petroleum Europe Limited is the culmination of several years of close collaboration between our organisations. We are pleased to have extended our scope across the company’s UKCS assets.

“We have seen a notable shift as the industry is starting to show real commitment to digitalisation, which will undoubtedly bring breakthroughs in productivity and safety by using data to create meaningful insights.”

The total value of the contract was not revealed.

Opex has previously worked with Cnooc through a previous contract with the firm for the last seven years.

This new award comes as Opex targets turnover of £4million this year.

The firm, founded in 2010, last month opened new headquarters in Aberdeen’s West End.
