Workers on a North Sea oil rig have felt the effects of an earthquake, according to the British Geological Survey (BGS).
In a Tweet, BGS said the 4.2 magnitude tremor was recorded yesterday afternoon, about 150 miles east of Aberdeen.
Several crew members on Total’s Elgin production, utilities and quarters (PUQ) platform claimed to have experienced “a moderate shaking feeling”.
The quake was given an intensity rating of three on the European Macroseismic Scale.
Tremors of this intensity are considered “weak” and likely to be felt indoors by “a few people”.
We have received a report from the Elgin-Franklin Offshore Field that this event was felt be several people on the PUQ offshore oil platform.
The reports describe “a moderate shaking feeling”.
