NHV takes over Petrofac North Sea flights contract

Helicopter operator NHV has clinched a new contract to provide North Sea crew change flights for energy service giant Petrofac.

NHV will lay on four flights per week to the FPF-1 floating production facility from its base in Aberdeen as part of a four-year deal, the value of which was not disclosed.

Petrofac is duty holder for the FPF-1 installation, which serves Ithaca Energy’s Greater Stella Area in the central North Sea.

The contract used to be held by troubled helicopter operator Bristow Group, which filed for US-style Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection earlier this year.

NHV started operating out of Aberdeen at the beginning of 2016 and announced the opening of a new hangar, apron and passenger handling facilities in October of that year.

The company, headquartered in Belgium, now has a fleet of five Airbus H175 copters at the Granite City hanger.

NHV’s Aberdeen headcount has grown by about 300% in the last three-and-a-half years to 85 today.

Jamie John, NHV’s base manager in Aberdeen, said: “We are delighted that Petrofac has decided to partner with NHV for its North Sea Operations.

“2019 has been a defining year for us at NHV Aberdeen. By adding the FPF1 to our portfolio, we further enhance our reputation in delivering safe and efficient helicopter services.

“The FPF1 passengers will benefit from our state of the art handling facility, whilst experiencing the comfort and safety features of the H175. We look forward to commencing operations at the start of September.”

In April, NHV revealed that it had won a contract to provide flights for Premier Oil’s North Sea assets, taking over from Babcock.

NHV chief executive Steffen Bay said “This award further builds on NHV’s success in the region and confirms our strategy.

“Our entire team is committed to providing continuous high-end performance and safety excellence.

“We look forward to thanking Petrofac for putting its trust in us to provide a genuine and reliable partnership.”
