Houston-headquartered Helix Energy Solutions Group has bought a majority stake in an Aberdeen-based subsea technology and well intervention firm.
Subsea Technologies, based in East Tullos Industrial Estate, will operate out of Helix’s offices in Dyce.
The company’s chief executive Drummond Lawson and chief technical officer Dave McKay will continue in their current roles.
The firm is understood to have about 30 employees.
The terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
Mr Lawson, who co-founded Subsea Technologies in 2010 alongside Mr McKay, said: “We are excited about the acquisition, as joining Helix represents opportunities for company growth and to strengthen our capabilities, products and service offerings.
“We will continue to provide industry leading service to our clients, and we look forward to engaging existing and new clients alike in those opportunities.”
Helix executive vice president Scotty Sparks said “This acquisition provides Helix with a significant opportunity to offer in-house engineering services, product development and systems engineering, whilst also enabling us to accelerate the development of new well intervention technologies and provide an enhanced product and service offering.”
