Evacuations as fire breaks out on tanker at Sture terminal

Norwegian energy firm Equinor has confirmed that evacuations have taken place as a result of a fire that broke out on board a tanker moored at the Sture terminal.

The company said 23 people were evacuated from the ship itself, with around an additional 102 removed from the terminal who were not on “emergency tasks”.

The fire is understood to have broken out in the engine room of the Dubai Harmony vessel.

Equinor said 22 people with emergency preparedness duties are now at the terminal.

The Sture terminal is near Stura in Oygarden municipality, 30 miles northwest of Bergen, Norway.

It’s a major tanker port for crude oil, which it receives from the Oseberg field.

Crude oil from the Edvard Grieg field has been transported to Sture via GOP since the end of 2015, and from 2016 the Ivar Aasen field has been connected by the same pipeline.

Around 120 oil and LPG tankers dock at the facility each year.
