Energy Voice | TechnipFMC adds dive support vessel to North Sea fleet

TechnipFMC has added a new-build dive support vessel to its North Sea fleet.

The energy services giant signed a deal with shipbuilding firm Vard in Norway last year for the ship, Deep Discoverer.

It is undergoing a testing programme before starting work in the first half of year.

TechnipFMC did not disclose the value of the deal.

Deep Discoverer will be used to service the North Sea diving construction market, as well as carry out inspection, repair and maintenance (IRM)work.

It has an 18-person twin bell saturation diving bell as part of its equipment, as well as a subsea crane.

TechnipFMC said the acquisition reinforces its position in the IRM market.

Bill Morrice, vice president of Commercial for UK and Mediterranean said: “This addition to our fleet not only demonstrates our steadfast commitment to diving construction operations in the North Sea, but also significantly improves our capabilities in the IRM market.

“Being able to deliver such a high standard of vessel at a competitive rate is further evidence of our company’s relentless drive to help our clients succeed.”
