Cairn Energy appoints former National Grid and BAE Systems exec to board

Scottish oil and gas explorer Cairn Energy has appointed a former executive of National Grid and aerospace firm BAE Systems to its board.

Alison Wood will become an independent non-executive director on July 1 and become a member of the audit committee, being paid £75,000 per year.

Ms Wood held numerous leadership roles with BAE systems over 17 years and later joined National Grid as global director of strategy and corporate development.

In 2011 she also joined the board of manufacturing firm Cobham as non-executive director, a role she will retire from by the end of 2019.

She also holds roles with engineering company Costain, TT Electronics and the British Standards Institution.

Cairn’s chairman, Ian Tyler, said: “I am delighted to welcome Alison Wood to the Cairn Board. Alison brings with her a wealth of public company and energy market experience.

“Her appointment will be an important asset to the Board, adding to its strength and depth as we continue our material exploration programme and look forward to additional sustained production and cash flow generation over the long term.”

Cairn Energy has operations globally, including the UK, Norway, Mexico, and Africa.

Its main interests in the UK are non-operating stakes in the Catcher and Kraken projects.

Cairn is carrying out an exploration campaign in the UK and Norway this year as an operator.
